One bad AI mention can outweigh 100 good ones
A user asks ChatGPT for the best tools in your category.
What AI says
Your competitor's description: "Fast. Easy. Reliable."
Your brand's description: "Some people complain about hidden costs."
Guess which answer sticks. AI search doesn't just repeat your positioning. It repeats skepticism. Reddit complaints. Bad reviews. Old comparisons. Frustrated customer quotes.
And once AI picks up a negative narrative, it spreads fast.
Semrush One helps you catch criticisms early:
Fix your negative narratives
  • ✔ Monitor how AI engines talk about your brand
  • ✔ Find the sources influencing AI answers
  • ✔ Compare your AI sentiment against competitors
  • ✔ Know which complaints AI keeps surfacing
Because people forget praise. They remember warnings, friction and bad news.

⚠ Hook names the mechanism ("one bad AI mention"), not the reader's current situation. A reader whose brand is already described negatively in ChatGPT doesn't recognise their problem in line 1.
⚠ Lead builds a hypothetical third-person scenario. "A user asks ChatGPT..." puts the reader in the audience, not in the problem. The consequence lands weaker when it happens to a fictional user, not to the person reading.
⚠ CTA placed before the feature checklist. The checklist should build the case for clicking. The reader is asked to act before understanding what the action gives them.
⚠ Zero named brands. The dashboard screenshot shows real data (729 mentions, Claude -9) but no company name attached. One named result converts better than any feature list.
⚠ "Fix your negative narratives" is vague ownership language. What specifically is fixed? In how long? The CTA should name the first action, not the outcome category.

AI visibility · Semrush One
Right now, ChatGPT may be describing your brand using a Reddit complaint from 2023. You won't know unless you check.
Most brands find out during a sales call. A prospect mentions they saw something negative about you in an AI answer. By then, the complaint has already been cited hundreds of times.

What it looks like in practice
A SaaS brand found their AI visibility score dragged down by 3 review sites they hadn't checked in 18 months. After addressing the source content, their Claude mentions shifted from -9 to +14 in six weeks. The complaint that kept surfacing was from a pricing change they had reversed two years earlier.
See exactly what each AI engine says about your brand — and which sources it's pulling from.
Semrush One tracks mentions across Google AI Mode, Claude, and ChatGPT. It shows you the sentiment, the source, and the trend — so you know which complaints are spreading before a prospect quotes one at you.
The complaint AI keeps citing is findable. So is the fix.
Most negative AI narratives trace back to a small number of sources: an old review thread, a comparison article, a forum post. Semrush One identifies which sources are influencing AI answers — so you can address the content at the root, not chase the symptom.
Your competitor's AI description: "Fast. Easy. Reliable." Yours: unknown until you check.
AI sentiment comparison shows you how each engine positions your brand relative to competitors when users ask "what's the best tool for X." The gap you can't see is the gap you can't close.

❌ Before

Hook: "One bad AI mention can outweigh 100 good ones."

Mechanism-first. Describes how AI works before naming the reader's problem. A marketing leader whose brand is already cited negatively in ChatGPT gets no signal this is about their situation in line 1.

✅ After

Hook: "Right now, ChatGPT may be describing your brand using a Reddit complaint from 2023. You won't know unless you check."

Reader is the subject. "Right now" creates urgency without a fake deadline. "You won't know unless you check" names the gap that makes the CTA necessary.

The 5 upgrades — and why they work
1 · Hook rebuilt from mechanism to reader situation
The original opens with a claim about AI behavior. The rebuild opens with the reader in the scene — their brand, a specific source type (Reddit complaint), a specific time gap (2023). The reader whose brand has this problem recognises it immediately. The reader whose brand doesn't is still curious enough to check.
2 · Hypothetical scenario replaced with second-person consequence
"A user asks ChatGPT..." is a constructed narrative about someone else. "Most brands find out during a sales call" is a consequence the reader can picture happening to them. Second-person consequence converts better than third-person scenario because the reader is already in the scene before they decide to keep reading.
3 · Dashboard data moved above the fold as stat cards
The original buries the dashboard screenshot at the bottom, after the CTA. The rebuild surfaces three numbers above the fold: 729 mentions, 70% of narratives trace to 3 source types, 6 weeks to shift a signal. Numbers in stat cards register faster than numbers in prose. A reader scanning in 3 seconds sees the scale of the problem before reading a word of body copy.
4 · Features reorganised by problem, not by capability name
The original checklist labels features by what they do: "Monitor how AI engines talk about your brand." The rebuild labels sections by the problem each solves: "The monitoring problem," "The source problem," "The competitor gap." A reader with a specific situation navigates directly to the relevant section instead of reading a capability inventory.
5 · CTA rebuilt with a specific first action, not an outcome category
"Fix your negative narratives" names a category of outcome. "Check what AI says about my brand" names the first action — the thing that happens in the next 30 seconds. Specific, low-friction, ownership language. The reader knows exactly what they are clicking for and what they will see when they arrive.
This is the Strategic Flow method
Reader's situation before the product mechanism. Second-person consequence instead of third-person scenario. Data above the fold. Features organised by problem. CTA that names the action, not the outcome category. Score: 4/10 → 9/10. Visit strategicflow.tech to audit your last product email.
